  1. I just tried this and updated Chrome at Kevin's suggestion. It seems to help. I also need to resist the temptation to have tons of tabs open at once which of course slows things down.
  2. I just discovered this new blog the other day. You, Me and MMA https://youmeandmma.wordpress.com/ YouMeAndMMA is a blog by the husband of Cubicle to The Cage (Canadian reality television) cast member and aspiring mixed martial arts fighter Nickie Cleroux. Follow Nickie's journey (from Ron's perspective) as she prepares for her first mixed martial arts bout. Thought it would be interesting to follow a female fighter's journey from her partner's perspective.
  3. This is a little off topic but I have found that using different web browsers make a huge difference for loading time. My preferred browser is Chrome but both the blog and the forum load painfully slowly. For me the fastest loading browser is Internet Explorer followed by Firefox. The new site is gorgeous but it definitely loads slower than the old one. Paypal has an option for a website owner to create a subscription service/recurring payment button their website. Paypal does charge a fee for the service. https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/get-started/recurring-payment-processing
  4. Lawrence Kenshin uses Patreon https://www.patreon.com/ One of the drawbacks to Patreon or GoFundMe or any other crowd funding site is that they take a percentage of the donations. Sylvie mentioned this in one of her blog posts http://8limbs.us/blog/go-fund-update-done-99-fights-accomplished. I know that Sylvie takes direct donations via PayPal, with the address: sylvie 8 limbs @ outlook . com http://www.paypal.com/bg/webapps/mpp/send-money-online (just remove the spaces in the e-mail address).
  5. I'm using Chrome with the black background and every so often a vertical line scrolls across the screen. Sounds like it's normal for the browser I'm using.
  6. Does anyone else notice the background scrolling horizontally? Not sure if it's just the page refreshing itself.
  7. I think it's interesting to see what a gym puts out there as a way to market themselves. What do they think will attract customers and who are they focusing their attention on?
  8. Interesting, I'm not a fighter but I've recently started following Muay Thai and MMA fighters on face book and watching fights on youtube. Most of the women who show up in my feed are wearing shorts/skorts and a sports bra/crop top. As someone who is an outsider to the sport I assumed that to be the standard attire for female fighters. Do gyms have a dress code? Are there rules about what fighters can and can't wear in the ring? Of course sex sells and in many professional sports women's attire is revealing to appeal to a heterosexual male audience.
  9. My turn to learn something new. I never notice that "preview topic" icon before. Fancy!
  10. If you click on the little black circle/conversation symbol next to the topic thread it should bring you to the newest post. If you hover over it, a message pops up that says " go to first unread post".
  11. I was googling Muay Thai in Vermont, USA and found a webpage for a school a couple towns over from me. http://www.vermontmuaythai.com/ Reading through it I saw a few things that were really attractive to me: they welcome beginners, explicitly say that no one will be humiliated or embarrassed and there are pictures of women training in their photo gallery. There were also a few things that really turned me off although I'm not exactly sure why: designed for rapid progress, learn simple but devastating techniques. Seems sort of cheesy and like some of those rip-off martial arts studios that promise you a new belt promotion every 6 months so they can make money off testing fees. They put a lot of emphasis that they teach "real" Muay Thai and training "like a Thai" but I'm not sure how I could judge this as someone who has never done Muay Thai before. They do offer a free class so maybe someday I will get up the nerve to go down and check it out. I'd love to hear how other people found/chose their Western gyms.
  12. There seems to be a page loading lag time for me. I'm on a windows 8 computer using Google Chrome as my browser. It's a little slow in Firefox as well. Internet Explorer seems to load the fastest.
  13. I got a message that I had reached my maximum number of likes for the day. Not sure if that is a bug or a feature.
  14. Women's only spaces are great. I belong to a women's only ski forum and a mixed gender ski forum and the women's forum is definitely more welcoming. Will trans women be able to join the women's forum? I hope that anyone who identifies as female could join.
  15. I'm Kristen. I'll mostly be a lurker since I'm not a muay thai practitioner myself but Sylvie asked me to help test drive the new forum. I'll have to dig up a cool avatar to post with.
