Any Bugs, Errors and Confusions?

Recommended Posts

This forum is still brand new and there's lots of tweaks and adjustments to be made, so please do us a favor and alert us to anything that isn't working or is confusing, etc. This section is the "comments box" so to speak, so let us know of any bugs, errors, improvements, etc.  We'll delete the comments when the issue is resolved, so don't be shy to post numerous times if you run into different things. Comment as you go.

Things I've had trouble with so far are: at times double posting because it seemed like my comment didn't post, and also that My Media button on the edit screen that was confusing.

You can also private message me in the forum here on my profile

Only thing I have seen so far is a strange flashing/screen tearing. Seems to happening mostly while pages are loading, but a little bit once it is fully loaded as well. I'm viewing the forum on an Android device; perhaps this is a Flash related issue?

When you are replying to a thread and somebody posts a reply in the meantime, there is a pop-up notification which offers you to see the new reply. However when you click on it, nothing happens.

When I go to "New content" and click on the topic it brings me to the page, but it starts at the head. It would be cool if it would scroll down automagically to the new unread post.

I also didn't notice if the unread content is marked differently in the thread. Is it even possible?

If you click on the little black circle/conversation symbol next to the topic thread it should bring you to the newest post. If you hover over it, a message pops up that says " go to first unread post".

dtrick, GENIUS!

I also just explored that if you click on the little icon in the middle - between the topic's title and other stuff it shows the first and last post! :D
Thanks for your help!

My turn to learn something new. I never notice that "preview topic" icon before. Fancy!

um... how do I post a picture from my computer please

Hey Rosy, Sylvie put up a Forum Features and How to Use them Post that describes it. Basically the photo has to be uploaded somewhere else on the Internet. You take the url of the photo and paste it in the field that shows when you click the picture icon on a post.

Does anyone else notice the background scrolling horizontally? Not sure if it's just the page refreshing itself.

That may be the color change of the background? On the Chrome browser it shows as a line that moves across the screen. but on Firefox for instance it's just a color gradation. Or do you see something else?

I'm using Chrome with the black background and every so often a vertical line scrolls across the screen. Sounds like it's normal for the browser I'm using.

Some people have experienced slow page load times on Chrome. In one instance upgrading to Chrome's latest version improved Chrome performance. Personally I see some sluggishness on Chrome (vs Explorer and Firefox), but nothing heavy. More that Chrome eats up CPU at a high rate.

I did some Googling around and found this very interesting article on how to speed up Chrome: Quick Fix For Your Slow Chrome Browser - I made this change on Chrome and it seemed to really speed up the load time, anecdotally so far.

The article explains it, but you basically go into Settings>Show Advanced Settings and uncheck this box (below) and Restart Chrome. It may seem counter intuitive to uncheck acceleration, but it does seem to help in some cases.

I just tried this and updated Chrome at Kevin's suggestion. It seems to help. I also need to resist the temptation to have tons of tabs open at once which of course slows things down.

  • 2 years later...

I want to change my avatar from the standard anonymous octopus to a little animation. Can I do this, and if so, what format? I've made is as an MP4 but the website doesn't like it. SHould it be a gif, or can't I have a moving avatar? Thanks!

I think it just has to be a photo. But I'm not sure, I haven't tried putting in a GIF. The GIF though, if it would work, would have to be hosted somewhere else.

    • Watched this fight the other day, and as much as Wangchannoi is known as a hard-hitting Muay Maat, his hidden art is really the art of spoilage. Watch him spoil one of the great clinch attacks of the Golden Age. Among the many things that he is doing is that his punching and pinning Langsuan's collarbone on his right hand side grab (unusual for an orthodox fighter).
    • This is a line of reasoning I'd like to pursue, that global Capitalism is deskilling Muay Thai fighters, but changing the rules and aesthetics to breakdown complex fighting knowledge to repetitive tasks, like throwing memorized combos, in order to increase the labor force, making individual fighters less unique and more replaceable, and transfer the knowledge core to promotional and media oriented marketing.   the chat gpt summary of deskilling: The argument that capitalism induces deskilling comes primarily from Marxist and critical labor theorists, particularly Harry Braverman, who expanded on this in his influential 1974 book Labor and Monopoly Capital. Here's a breakdown of the argument: 🔧 What is Deskilling? Deskilling is the process by which skilled labor is replaced with less skilled or unskilled labor—often through: Technology or automation Standardization of work tasks Fragmentation of complex jobs into simpler, repetitive tasks 💰 Why Would Capitalism Encourage Deskilling? 1. Profit Maximization Capitalist firms aim to maximize profits. One way to do this is to: Replace skilled workers (who are more expensive) with less skilled workers or machines Simplify tasks so they require minimal training, which reduces labor costs 2. Managerial Control Simplifying jobs increases management’s control over the labor process: Skilled workers often have more autonomy and bargaining power Deskilling reduces workers' independence and makes them easier to supervise, replace, and discipline 3. Increased Productivity Deskilled labor allows for: Mass production techniques (think Ford’s assembly line) Faster and more consistent output Easily interchangeable workers, which supports scalability 🧠 Theoretical Roots Karl Marx: Believed capitalism alienates workers from the labor process, reducing their work to mere repetitive actions Harry Braverman: Argued that capitalist development deliberately strips away workers’ skill and knowledge to concentrate power and expertise in management
    • small note, it is interesting to see a 1930s account of an hour of shadowboxing: It reminds me of Yodkhunpon's account of building his Muay Thai out of countless hours of shadowboxing, due to his lack of equipment or even explicit training in his rural village. The tale of endless shadowboxing goes back 100 years.

    • The first fight between Poot Lorlek and Posai Sittiboonlert was recently uploaded to youtube. Posai is one of the earliest great Muay Khao fighters and influential to Dieselnoi, but there's very little footage of him. Poot is one of the GOATs and one of Posai's best wins, it's really cool to see how Posai's style looked against another elite fighter.
    • Yeah, this is certainly possible. Thanks! I just like the idea of a training camp pre-fight because of focus and getting more "locked in".. Do you know of any high level gyms in europe you would recommend?
    • You could just pick a high-level gym in a European city, just live and train there for however long you want (a month?). Lots of gyms have morning and evening classes.
    • Hi, i have a general question concerning Muay-Thai training camps, are there any serious ones in Europe at all? I know there are some for kickboxing in the Netherlands, but that's not interesting to me or what i aim for. I have found some regarding Muay-Thai in google searches, but what iv'e found seem to be only "retreats" with Muay-Thai on a level compareable to fitness-boxing, yoga or mindfullness.. So what i look for, but can't seem to find anywhere, are camps similar to those in Thailand. Grueling, high-intensity workouts with trainers who have actually fought and don't just do this as a hobby/fitness regime. A place where you can actually grow, improve technique and build strength and gas-tank with high intensity, not a vacation... No hate whatsoever to those who do fitness-boxing and attend retreats like these, i just find it VERY ODD that there ain't any training camps like those in Thailand out there, or perhaps i haven't looked good enough?..  Appericiate all responses, thank you!
    • In my experience, 1 pair of gloves is fine (14oz in my case, so I can spar safely), just air them out between training (bag gloves definitely not necessary). Shinguards are a good idea, though gyms will always have them and lend them out- just more hygienic to have your own.  2 pairs of wraps, 2 shorts (I like the lightweight Raja ones for the heat), 1 pair of good road running trainers. Good gumshield and groin-protector, naturally. Every time I finish training, I bring everything into the shower (not gloves or shinnies, obviously) with me to clean off the (bucketsfull in my case) of sweat, but things dry off quickly here outside of the monsoon season.  One thing I have found I like is smallish, cotton briefs for training (less cloth, therefore sweaty wetness than boxers, etc.- bring underwear from home- decent, cotton stuff is strangely expensive here). Don't weigh yourself down too much. You might want to buy shorts or vests from the gym(s) as (useful) souvenirs. I recommend Action Zone and Keelapan, next door, in Bangkok (good selection and prices):  https://www.google.com/maps/place/Action+Zone/@13.7474264,100.5206774,17z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!2sAction+Zone!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2!3m5!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAyOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
