Best Muay Thai Equipment Shops in Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Thaismai - map link -

There is the Thaismai shop that Sylvie visited a few years ago :

and then again, last year:

Thaismai is a super old brand, I've seen photos of lumpinee fights from the 1960s with their logo, and they have pretty nice equipment. I'm don't train much, my job is mostly just being Sylvie's husband, but I love the gloves I bought there. It's well designed, not expensive equipment. Also, it's the only place I know of to buy the 123 Greatest Muay Thai fighters of Thailand book:

which is pretty cool. Worth a visit.

Boon Sport - map link -

There is also the Boon shop, which is all Boon.  Looks like this:

Boon is owned by Scott Marr, a westerner who really devoted himself to top quality Thai made equipment, and it's built a reputation of equipment, long lasting gear. Some people really swear by Boon, and use nothing else. Andy Thomson, a trainer in Thailand for 20+ years, who recently passed, was very into his Boon mitts and Belly pads. They don't cut corners. They also have some nice micro-mitts that you can't find anywhere, Scott designed them himself. We bought a pair as a gift for Chatchai Sasakul, one of the great boxing trainers in Thailand, who wanted a pair.

Actionzone

map link - Actionzone we haven't been to, but this is the most often mentioned shop for equipment in Bangkok that I've seen. It seems like it's what most people have in mind when they imagine walking around and picking from various brands.

Thanks Kevin, some great information here. Thaismai is the one I remember reading about. Were are located in the Bang Kapi district training at the sasiprapa gym first week then over to the national stadium for the tournament.

Goingvto check out the best way to get over there and find that shop. Sound ideal.

Thanks for the advise

Regards

Brian

Thaismai, Boon, or Super Export Shop are all great. I prefer Boon for gear (for both quality and price), and Thaismai will make custom shorts for a good price (around 700 baht) Skip Actionzone these days imo.

Edit: I should have mentioned that I would go to Boon for personal gear, and Super Export Shop for training equipment. Super Export Shop has a lot of Fairtex gear for really good prices and will carry several different models of Thai Pads and Belly Pads.

+1 for Boon and Super Export Shop here as well. The Top King store isn't too far from Super Export Shop either. They only open Monday to Friday, though.

I really like the Twins shop in Suanluang Square (if you like Twins gear, definitely head there). There's a Fairtex store close by, haven't been in there though. Action Zone is pretty close to Suanluang Square as well, they offer pretty good discounts.

There's a good guide to the different Muay Thai stores around Bangkok on Muay Thai Citizen: http://www.muaythaicitizen.com/where-to-buy-muay-thai-gear-in-bangkok/

If you go to the Top King store, please check that they are not closed before heading there.
Been in front of the closed door twice already.

The only shop in the world that doesn't open on a weekend. If you do finally get to visit though, the girl in there is very friendly and helpful.

Also been in front of the door on a weekday 😄, but you can just call them to be sure before going there.
That's very true! Super friendly and helpful.

    • I am soon to be 17 and I’ve been training Muay Thai for nearly 3 years now. I also happen to be doing quite well in school and plan to go to uni. However, that all changed when I went to Thailand last summer to train for a few weeks and fight. One of the trainers, with whom I have developed a close connection, told me not to go back home and stay in Thailand in order build a career. “You stay, become superstar” to quote him, as he pointed at the portraits of their best fighters hung on the gym’s wall. After realizing he wasn’t joking, I told him I couldn’t stay and had to finish my last year of high school (which is what I am currently doing) but promised him I’d come back the following year once I was done with school. Ever since, both these words and my love for Muay Thai resonate in me, and I can’t get the idea of becoming a professional fighter out of my head. On one hand, I’m afraid I’m being lied to, since me committing to being a fighter obviously means he gets more pay to be my coach. But on the other hand, it is quite a reputable and trustworthy gym, and this trainer in particular is an incredible coach and pad holders since he is currently training multiple rws fighters including one who currently holds an rws belt. And for a little more context, I don’t think this invitation to become a pro came out of nowhere, because during those few weeks I trained extremely hard and stayed consistent, which I guess is what impressed him and motivated him to say those words. Additionally, I was already thinking about the possibility of going pro before the trip because of my love for Muay Thai and because a female boxing champion who has close ties to my local gym told me I had potential and a fighter’s mindset. Therefore, I have to pick between two great opportunities, one being college and a stable future, and the other being a Muay Thai career supported by a great gym and coach. So far, I plan to do a gap year to give myself more time to make a decision and to begin my training in order to give myself an idea of how hard life as a pro is. This is a big decision which I definitely need help with, so some advice would be greatly appreciated.
    • When I've come out to Thailand to train (and holiday!), I've always trained just once a week for the first one. It takes a while for the body to adjust, especially with the heat and/ or humidity, and gives me a chance to recover and explore. After that, it depends on how I feel/ what my goals are. Sometimes I've switched to twice a day, other times I haven't. If you're coming out to fight, you might want to. If it's just to train, improve and enjoy your stay, sometimes twice a day is a slog. Your decision... Chok dee.
