Any good Muay Thai gyms in Singapore?

Recommended Posts

If you can afford it, Evolve MMA has an incredible roster of Thai trainers. Otherwise, my friend from Singapore says the good thing about training Muay Thai in Singapore is all the gyms have Thai trainers. So just try a few out when you get there and pick one you like.

Check out Inspire fitness Asia, it’s a gym in Joo chiat which is a really nice area of Singapore. The coaches and the all around atmosphere there is great and they are more technique focused than your regular commercial Muay Thai gym. Hope you give it a try. Cheers

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. I should've elaborated further. I am looking for a gym that does similar drills to their Thai counterparts. Which means at least 2-3 rounds of padwork, and with this basic training routine: running/skipping > shadow boxing > bag work > pad work > conditioning > cool down.

Onyx brings Thai trainers over from Thailand and their managers/operators have experience training and fighting in Thailand, so their style is based in those experiences. I don't know what their day-to-day training looks like, but their technique and focus is based in Thai gym training experience.

I train at Eminent Gym, located in the city center (Bugis area): https://www.eminentgymsg.com/

Each class is 1h30 and follows exactly the routine you mentioned above. We start with skipping but you can also run before the session starts, that's what some of us do, there are 5km, 8km, and 10km loops that can be done around the gym. Pad work is 3 rounds and we typically do sparring after pad work (~20-30 minutes based on time), before strength and conditioning.

The team has been training and fighting in Thailand (most of them were at Eminent Air, that's why we're affiliated with them), so the training at Eminent is based on their experience from Thailand.

Hope that helps! Cheers 🙂

    • How on fucking earth is this related to Muay-Thai?  Moderators, cleanup on aisle five pretty please 🙏
    • We were up in Khorat last night, 9 hours of driving round trip, just to see two quick fights (maybe 20 minutes), and it was totally worth it. After watching Rambaa's festival fight card the night before. #muayThai There was something about spending the hours standing in the crowds til 11 pm in Pattaya, to watch the temple fights, and then the next day to drive out to Khorat to see these little daughters fight, the overall keeping of the flame of the birth of Muay Thai, attending to that, that filled us with meaning. It's like you are watching Muay Thai's heartbeat, when you watch the Muay that isn't made for export, and you see it living and breathing in families, in heritage...in this case from Khaosai Galaxy (famed as a boxer) now in his 60s, now in his little daughters.
    • how to use head movement in Muay Thai: https://x.com/Egokind1/status/1906268431315280261 The highlight brings in general the thought that everyone has gotten spam-the-elbows happy in Thailand. This has happened quickly, and you could pretty much see the change start in real time because of COVID, beginning when they briefly banned clinch in paranoia (and with Entertainment Muay Thai). It feels like the Yodkhunpon template (which itself as an extreme outlier, and not well-esteemed in its time) got oversimplified. A lot of Muay Thai is just becoming Muay Elbow. As defense significantly erodes in Muay Thai though, the elbow is becoming a more and more effective go-to. It becomes chicken and egg. More elbows, less defense, the less defense, the more elbows are effective. The elbow may become the iconic cliche strike of Muay Thai, when at its height Muay Thai rather rarely featured elbows. They were seen as both "low" and largely ineffective.

    • The first fight between Poot Lorlek and Posai Sittiboonlert was recently uploaded to youtube. Posai is one of the earliest great Muay Khao fighters and influential to Dieselnoi, but there's very little footage of him. Poot is one of the GOATs and one of Posai's best wins, it's really cool to see how Posai's style looked against another elite fighter.
    • Yeah, this is certainly possible. Thanks! I just like the idea of a training camp pre-fight because of focus and getting more "locked in".. Do you know of any high level gyms in europe you would recommend?
    • You could just pick a high-level gym in a European city, just live and train there for however long you want (a month?). Lots of gyms have morning and evening classes.
    • Hi, i have a general question concerning Muay-Thai training camps, are there any serious ones in Europe at all? I know there are some for kickboxing in the Netherlands, but that's not interesting to me or what i aim for. I have found some regarding Muay-Thai in google searches, but what iv'e found seem to be only "retreats" with Muay-Thai on a level compareable to fitness-boxing, yoga or mindfullness.. So what i look for, but can't seem to find anywhere, are camps similar to those in Thailand. Grueling, high-intensity workouts with trainers who have actually fought and don't just do this as a hobby/fitness regime. A place where you can actually grow, improve technique and build strength and gas-tank with high intensity, not a vacation... No hate whatsoever to those who do fitness-boxing and attend retreats like these, i just find it VERY ODD that there ain't any training camps like those in Thailand out there, or perhaps i haven't looked good enough?..  Appericiate all responses, thank you!
    • In my experience, 1 pair of gloves is fine (14oz in my case, so I can spar safely), just air them out between training (bag gloves definitely not necessary). Shinguards are a good idea, though gyms will always have them and lend them out- just more hygienic to have your own.  2 pairs of wraps, 2 shorts (I like the lightweight Raja ones for the heat), 1 pair of good road running trainers. Good gumshield and groin-protector, naturally. Every time I finish training, I bring everything into the shower (not gloves or shinnies, obviously) with me to clean off the (bucketsfull in my case) of sweat, but things dry off quickly here outside of the monsoon season.  One thing I have found I like is smallish, cotton briefs for training (less cloth, therefore sweaty wetness than boxers, etc.- bring underwear from home- decent, cotton stuff is strangely expensive here). Don't weigh yourself down too much. You might want to buy shorts or vests from the gym(s) as (useful) souvenirs. I recommend Action Zone and Keelapan, next door, in Bangkok (good selection and prices):  https://www.google.com/maps/place/Action+Zone/@13.7474264,100.5206774,17z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!2sAction+Zone!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2!3m5!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAyOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
