Forum Members Training Together!

Recommended Posts

Minu, who was one of the first members on the forum, has been training with me at Master Toddy's! At first, she was doing private lessons, but after a few of those, she started joining the group classes and last week, we were able to do some sparring together. It's really awesome that we were able to meet up in this way. Hopefully, more of us will be able to get together as time goes on

Nice to see :)

This forum is delivering some solid advertisment for Toddys. I think I may end up there in July because of this forum, and from reading your blog Emma. Either there, or Sinbi, but being in Bangkok is a big plus in my book. I don't want to get distracted by the classic tourist stuff, and also my job requires me to be able to return to Sweden within a day in case of an emergency, so being close to a big airport is very good. So maybe we will run into each other in a month or so!

Awesome! Let me know if you do decide to come here. I will be on holiday in the UK for the first half of July, but I'll be around all the time from then.

The jealousy is real. But I'll be up there on Sunday, so I really hope I get to see both of you!

You will. Looking forward to it!

Thanks for coming by for training, Sylvie! Always so much fun :woot:

If any other forum members are interested in linking up for training, do post here and let us know! I'd love to get more of us together.

Milena (Micc) and I trained together today! She's in Bangkok right now, so came along and did some sparring with me, which was great. After that, we met up with Kelly Creegan for dinner and had a great time. It was so awesome to be able to meet up after talking online for so long!

Thanks for posting the picture! I'm slowly getting back on track with the forum, so I just saw this! :D

It was GREAT meeting you and Kelly, as well as training with you. It means so much to me to be welcomed so friendly and openly by you! :) Was a great night out with you guys and funny fact: as I was going back I only then realized that I have no idea when's the last BTS train back to my hostel as I had to change trains in Siam, but fortunately they were still going! :D Stressed out for a moment though!

Here's a couple of shots from when Kate came to train with me yesterday along with Sean Fagan. It was so great to meet them! Kate also trained with Sylvie earlier in the week, so it was cool that we were both able to catch her before she goes home on Monday.

    • As someone who loves this sport, it’s hard to hear, but months of symptoms from one sparring kick is a major warning sign. It’s not necessarily about having a 'glass jaw,' but your brain might just be more sensitive to trauma than the average person. In a real fight, the adrenaline is high and the shots are 10x harder if your recovery was that rough in a controlled environment, a fight could do permanent damage. There's plenty of joy in being a technical nak muay without the amateur fight trophy. Please prioritize your long-term health over one night in the ring.
    • Hey guys, Im a 19 year old college student who's been training kickboxing for almost a year and a half now, I'm planning to go train muay thai at Sit Thai gym in Chiang Mai for 2 months this may.   How do I find a place to stay there? Also, how reliable is it to pay an advance for a place I see online, and arriving there to my place, Any help would be appreciated, Im really confused about acommodation
    • Always appreciate the perspective you and Sylvie bring to the table. Having watched her journey towards that 300-fight milestone, it’s clear that her path has been anything but the 'sanitized' version most Westerners experience. The struggle to find 'authentic' Muay Thai today often feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack of commercial gyms. Looking forward to your breakdown of those two biggest areas of difficulty it's a conversation the community desperately needs.

    • I'm sorry I don't really know. Sylvie is in touch with a collector and this person is where she buys hers, but there are not multiple copies available. Maybe someone else would know of a larger source.
    • Where can I find some physical old Muay Thai magazines? I am located in Bangkok. Thanks
    • I can only comment on Perth. There's a very active Muay Thai scene here - regular shows. Plenty of gyms across the city with Thai trainers. All gyms offer trial classes so you can try a few out before committing . Direct flights to Bangkok and Phuket as well. Would you be coming over on a working holiday visa? Loads of work around Western Australia at the moment.
    • Hi, I'm considering moving to Australia from the UK and I'm curious what is the scene like? Is it easy to fight frequently (proam/pro level), especially as a female? How does it compare to the UK? Any gym recommendations? I'll be grateful for any insights.
    • You won't find thai style camps in Europe, because very few people can actually fight full time, especially in muay thai. As a pro you just train at a regular gym, mornings and evenings, sometimes daytime if you don't have a job or one that allows it. Best you can hope for is a gym with pro fighters in it and maybe some structured invite-only fighters classes. Even that is a big ask, most of Europe is gonna be k1 rather than muay thai. A lot of gyms claim to offer muay thai, but in reality only teach kickboxing. I think Sweden has some muay thai gyms and shows, but it seems to be an exception. I'm interested in finding a high-level muay thai gym in Europe myself, I want to go back, but it seems to me that for as long as I want to fight I'm stuck in the UK, unless I switch to k1 or MMA which I don't want to do.
