  1.   @Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu has talked at lot about the myth of over training, under recovery, and consistency. https://8limbsus.com/muay-thai-thailand/why-we-quit-early-fatigue-long-runs-learning-from-runners

@Kevin von Duuglas-Ittu usually recommend not to prepay for training. Instead, train at a few different gyms. That way you can see which gym you like best and you're not locked in if your plans change. Gyms in Thailand change fast.

I'm just a Sylvie fan, I don't train or fight Muay Thai. These are just my thoughts from follow Sylvie's social media over the years.

Try 1 session/day for multiple days in a row instead of 2 sessions/day every other day. If you're feeling good, you can always add more sessions/day. Take privates, to get more focused, individual attention. Stetching, foam rolling, heat, and massage can all help stiffness.

  2. This thread and article are pretty old but it sounds like they. used to do a 5-10 km hilly run in the AM and a flatter 2-3 km run in the afternoon.

I recommend running at least 30-45 minutes daily on top of training before going. 10 KM run in the mountains at 6h00 AM. Afternoon 2-3 KM run of about 10-15 minutes on a much more flat ground.

We laid on our backs, heads dipped off the back of the ring and our bellies grazing the bottom rope.  I showed her how to dip the head back down over the side of the ring and then bring it back up to touch your chin to your chest, counting out 10 repetitions.  She kept up with me.  Then we did side-to-side.  And then we flipped over on our bellies and did the same, 10 reps of each.  I told her that’s enough for today but that she must do this every day, and next week it will be 15 repetitions.

Yea, I think it just takes time to master this. You want to beat the guy your fighting and sparring but at the same time stay relaxed but it's that thought of 'i've gotta go harder than this guy' and you just go into feral mode and tire yourself out.

Sylvie wrote a really cool article about why sparring escalates, even when people are trying to go light. A gem from 10 years ago. https://8limbsus.com/blog/brain-science-sparring-gets-control-neurology-muay-thai

  7. This post from the WBC on Facebook caught my eye. A fight for the vacant Women's WBC Minimum Weight International Title is taking place on 7/26/2023 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (Vietnam) vs Pornthip Khamthongpanow (Thailand).

Sylvie fought Elisabetta Solinas (Italy) for the vacant Women's WBC Minimum Weight World Title on 2/4/2023. Fight #275 on the way to #471

When I first say the FB post I didn't realize there were 3 belts at each weight class: World, International, and European. I was trying to figure out why 2 other women were fighting for "Sylvie's Belt" instead of Sylvie defending it.

Women's WBC Rankings,  Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (Vietnam) is ranked 5th and Pornthip Khamthongpanow (Thailand) is ranked 7th.

Attachai gym in Bangkok seems like the closest thing to a nice setting close to everything since it's in BK.

Sadly Attachai is no longer in BKK. According to @emma's facebook post they are setting up a new gym in Ayutthaya https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=611345137083522&set=a.289400305944675

Their facebook page is still up. Last post was in March so not sure how active it is. https://www.facebook.com/ATTACHAIMUAYTHAIGYM

  9. Kem's is on Sylvie's recommended gym list. Here's her description. Hopefully if anyone has been there recently they will chime in.

Gyms I Haven't Been To in While But Probably Still Recommended

Kem Muaythai Gym - clinch heavy, gorgeous mountain location, run by a great fighter in Kem, access to Isaan festival cards.

Kem's Muay Thai gym may be one of the best in Thailand, high up on a mountain near Khorat. I call it the Shaolin Experience. Big beautiful resort like grounds, grueling training sessions, at times lots of active fighters. The connection to Isaan fighting is very special, there is nothing quite like festival fighting. It's one of the best experiences you'll have as a fighter. I wrote about the gym a few years ago here: Kem Muaythai Gym: Hardcore, Beautiful, Clinch Gym - You can see Kem's teaching style in the Muay Thai Library: Session 1: Building a System (52 min), Session 2: Mastering Everything In Between (80 min)
