  1. It was an interesting experience, she came straight from Disney Land to meet me and a man from the newspaper who was stopping by later. You've obviously met her before, but she doesn't speak much, she just got to training, answered questions, all while her coach watched her train beaming with pride and telling me little tidbits about her and probing me to see what I knew. He had some interesting words for Little Tiger that I thought were hilarious. Addressing your comment about her clinch, I think she was doing a Japanese thing where you don't boast about yourself / undervalue everything you do. While she said that she does not care about it or train it, I imagine that that is not the case at all. However, if she does indeed retire upon graduation, 2 years from now, I can understand why she isn't going to concentrate on it that much. Being a student means that she doesn't have a lot of freedom when she can leave the country so odds are she is going to be fighting Japanese fighters or foreign fighters brought to Japan, plus it seems that she wants to fight in America or Europe before she retires. She reminds me a lot of Erika. They were both very quiet yet serious about Muay Thai, but they mixed their love of Muay Thai with Japanese Fighting Spirit for lack of a better term, so they prefer to go forward. Whereas other Japanese fighters like Rena are more...serious/bubbly? I imagine it has to do with traditional Japanese martial art mentality creeping into the schools over there. She said Little Tiger doesn't but I think she does, I think something weird happened where after Pizza retired Little Tiger won it in some match, but I have no idea, WMC is a joke at least WPMF has a semi-functional website. Her coach actually asked if i was you, when he saw me. Saya just laughed at him and said no.
  2. I interviewed Saya Ito http://cjsreport.blogspot.com/2016/02/saya-ito-interview.html
  3. During one of the greatest months in my life, I traveled to the relatively remote city of Toyohashi to interview Mizuki Inoue ahead of her fight this weekend. http://cjsreport.blogspot.com/2016/01/mizuki-inoue-interview.html The sign in Japanese besides the heavy bag, has Joanna and Claudia written on it with a paint brush caligraphy style, they are her ultimate goals. An awesome experience.
  4. There is going to be a show on ufc fight pass centered around Kyra Gracie. In an episode she goes to Mexico to train boxing. From what I've read, some of the plans involve sending her around the world to train in multiple disciplines.
  5. Yukari won the fight, and the tournament. She will now be facing Momi for the championship. A lot of famous fighters have fought for J-Girls (Joanna J., Rena, Erika)
  6. Here is a video of her physical training, some people might find it useful https://youtu.be/pWurRnPYC50
  7. Yukari is fighting for the J-Girls Championship on 9/6, which probably explains why she will not be in the Girl's S-Cup this year. Pretty cool poster
  8. I did not see the fight. I know that she reiterated after the fight her desire to fight Little Tiger in September. "I've defended the Japanese title twice, so I think I have a chance to fight for the world title now, at that aim I don't want to fight another Thai, I think that I would very much so would like to fight Little Tiger, I als think the people around here would like to see that fight, so I will do all I can to make sure that fight comes together, and when it does it will make me very happy" Here she is signing a copy of LadyGo's most recent book for a fan after the fight
  9. http://blog.livedoor.jp/ladygo1999/archives/8898803.html Excellent photos from ladygo
  10. I kinda read the same thing into it with regards to hand picking her opponents. It is kind of a risky thing to do in my opinion with regards to Japanese culture. From what I have experienced, fighters do not call people out. I would ask fighters who they wanted to fight and they wouldn't say a name, fighters refused to publicly speak negatively about other fighters ect. Outspoken fighters like Shinya Aoki are either loved or hated by Japanese fans. I sometimes wonder if it stems from the mentality in Sumo where the champions aren't supposed to express any emotion, be respectful, and just go out and win. However, Saya Ito is popular and people in Japan want to see her fight Little Tiger so her calling out Tiger would excite them and be seen as a good thing.
  11. Saya Ito and Little Tiger were both at an event to launch a book about Japan's best female fighters, during Little Tiger's Q and A, Saya asked Tiger why she is only going to Thailand for opponents when she, a ranked opponent, lives so nearby. She then asked Tiger why she doesn't fight her in September. Tiger responded that she'd like to but she'll have to ask her manager. Some pictures from the event. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=854740714616830&id=447205925370313&set=pcb.854741441283424&source=48
  12. If I remember correctly Robbie had a nasty cut on his lip, the top-side of his head, and his one eye looked terrible the day after. Have you seen his fight with Manhoef? I think it boils down to the fact that Robbie is very tough lol As far as MMA fights go, I think he was trying to do what Wiedman did to Munoz and hit him with an elbow while he was moving in. ouch
  13. It turns out that Haru Tajima was the subject of a tv show leading into her last fight. There are some clips from the fight at the end. Turns out she is a teacher at a women's college.
  14. His pictures were used in a similar book 5 years ago. I honestly think it is his hobby.
  15. Looks like his photographs will be used in another book https://www.facebook.com/pages/蹴りたがる女子/119684935034969 The title of the book roughly translated to "Women who want to kick" It seems that the book is kind of like a documentary on several Japanese fighters. One of the tag lines is "What are they looking for in the ring" It includes: WPMF Flyweight Champion Itsuka Saya Ito Mina Ai Takahashi WPMF Mini-Fly Champion Haru Tajima WPMF, WMC Pin Weight Champion Little Tiger LadyGo is my favorite Japanese fight photographer and there are some cool photos from the book on the facebook page
  16. I've been to a couple of Asian countries and have witnessed these skin whitening creams ect. I thought one was a moisturizer and was applying it to my sunburn and thought my sunburn had gone away in record time. Nope. I merely bleached my sunburn. I'd also see women wearing long gloves, leggings, and umbrellas to stay out of the sun. I've read some articles that trace it back to the idea that being pale equaled wealth because you weren't outside in the fields. I've read some articles that talk about a desire to look western. I.e. the trend in Korea to have plastic surgery done to their eyelids. It seems to stem from a lot of things. Someone posted about people getting up and switching train cars when their boyfriend came on the car. That happened to me all time. I don't know if people were scared, disgusted, or intimidated by me lol. There was also the look of dread when I would sit by some people. You are correct in stating that it is a very unwelcome feeling.
  17. Yeah, I think the real reason as with PVZ is that she was under 21.
