I’ve recently reached the landmark achievement of 250 fights, which is incredible to even write. It’s a monumental achievement and one I want to celebrate, but to put it in context it’s about the halfway mark to my ultimate goal of 471 fights (a number arrived at because the highest number of recorded fights is Len Wickwar, a British Boxer in the 30s-40s). Both are insane, both are/were going to happen. But the 250 has happened and these gloves are a celebration of that – see my complete fight record here. So I signed this pair directly after exiting the ring from my 250th fight (you can see the signing below), at Anusarn Market in Chiang Mai. They’re ThaiSmai gloves, which are my favorite brand, ever since being introduced to it in Master K’s basement, where it all began. Hard to beat nostalgia.

I’m auctioning the signed gloves on Ebay (go to the auction here!) and the proceeds of that bidding will go directly to the Kru Fund. For those who aren’t familiar, one of my largest works is the Muay Thai Library – Preserve the Legacy, which is filming with Krus, Legends, and Fighters of Thailand to preserve the disappearing techniques as contemporary Muay Thai is changing, but also archiving the men who carry out and express those techniques. It’s all long-form training video, not edited for “highlights”, and I add my voiceover to explain what’s being taught, what it felt like, or translate what’s being said in Thai. Everyone who films with me for the Library is a recipient of the Kru Fund every year, which is a collection of funds from my Patreon and the sale of my shorts, shirts, and in this case, these gloves. So, bid with the knowledge that this auction is for the benefit of the Kru Fund.

I hope someone who is connected to my journey gets these gloves and is empowered by them, and I’m so happy if in any way my fighting improves the lives of the incredible teachers of Thailand.

You can see the full video of my 250th fight, with my voiceover commentary, and the signing of the gloves at the end below.

Muay Thai

A 100 lb. (46 kg) female Muay Thai fighter. Originally I trained under Kumron Vaitayanon (Master K) and Kaensak sor. Ploenjit in New Jersey. I then moved to Thailand to train and fight full time in April of 2012, devoting myself to fighting 100 Thai fights, as well as blogging full time. Having surpassed 100, and then 200, becoming the westerner with the most fights in Thailand, in history, my new goal is to fight an impossible 471 times, the historical record for the greatest number of documented professional fights (see western boxer Len Wickwar, circa 1940), and along the way to continue documenting the Muay Thai of Thailand in the Muay Thai Library project: see patreon.com/sylviemuay
