Persistent Shin Soreness After 5 Days of Hot Water Massage - Question For Sylvie

Recommended Posts

I fought 7 days ago against a VERY strong kicker, he was about 10 lbs heavier than I am. I blocked a lot and after the fight, iced both shins for 48 hr, after that hit water massage 2 or 3 times a day, after that rub on namman muay or tiger balm. I even use compression wraps after that.. There's still fluid under my skin and shin soreness. See a doctor or any other healing advice, Sylvie? Much appreciated.

Hi. The way that you deal with this at this point depends on whether it is a "knot" (hard bump) or a pocket or dent with fluid. Can you take a photo of it and attach it in the reply?

Also, I assume you are not kicking on it yet, right?

I have a knot on my right shin and a dent with fluid below. On my left shin,  dent with fluid. No kicking correct. Everything else.

That knot needs more pressure during the draining with the hot water. The way you press it out can be tricky because doing it yourself might not be aggressive enough. Like trying to massage yourself or clean out a painful cut, we kind of pull back due to the pain, whereas having someone else help press it... well, someone else can be less "kind" haha. My trainer in Chiang Mai helped me sometimes, it was rough but it was necessary. Are you in Thailand?

Yes I train at Sit-Thailand gym. I'll have to ask someone to painfully massage it down i guess.

I thought I recognized you off your style of tattoos, haha. Kru Thailand will be able to help. It's going to suck, but it will improve quickly after the mass is broken down. Leave the one that's  a pocket alone, just use oil on that.

Congratulations on your fight as well.

How are they now?

Thanks for asking. My left shin still has a bubble of fluid, shin not too sore. Right shin is even better, hardly and fluid and 1/10 for soreness. Little hard bumps on the shin bones still. I try to rub a glass bottle down them daily to smooth it out.

Hi, this is an old thread but I'm still having swelling in my shin. I went to a doctor and they just gave me an ultrasound to help heal the bone. Randomly, the bone will be sore and throb, like this morning and last Sunday, but for months it wasn't sore at all, but fluid was still present. I'm scared it's forever f**ked up.

Did the doctor do any kind of imaging to see if there's a fracture?

I do remember my bones randomly hurting, a deep throbbing, months after an injury to them. I have dimples and bumps all along the bones in both shins that you can feel when you press and run your finger down the length of them. Those definitely hurt when they were getting there, but I don't feel my shins almost at all anymore. The fluid is a bit concerning to me, just in that I can't remember that being a thing that I dealt with for a long time after getting the lumps out. That doesn't mean I didn't have it, I just don't remember it. I also fought ALL THE TIME, so maybe I didn't know where the swelling was coming from. Is it swollen all the time or it comes and goes? Is there a coin-sized center spot or soft spot that you can locate against the bone?

    • The first fight between Poot Lorlek and Posai Sittiboonlert was recently uploaded to youtube. Posai is one of the earliest great Muay Khao fighters and influential to Dieselnoi, but there's very little footage of him. Poot is one of the GOATs and one of Posai's best wins, it's really cool to see how Posai's style looked against another elite fighter.
    • Yeah, this is certainly possible. Thanks! I just like the idea of a training camp pre-fight because of focus and getting more "locked in".. Do you know of any high level gyms in europe you would recommend?
    • You could just pick a high-level gym in a European city, just live and train there for however long you want (a month?). Lots of gyms have morning and evening classes.
    • Hi, i have a general question concerning Muay-Thai training camps, are there any serious ones in Europe at all? I know there are some for kickboxing in the Netherlands, but that's not interesting to me or what i aim for. I have found some regarding Muay-Thai in google searches, but what iv'e found seem to be only "retreats" with Muay-Thai on a level compareable to fitness-boxing, yoga or mindfullness.. So what i look for, but can't seem to find anywhere, are camps similar to those in Thailand. Grueling, high-intensity workouts with trainers who have actually fought and don't just do this as a hobby/fitness regime. A place where you can actually grow, improve technique and build strength and gas-tank with high intensity, not a vacation... No hate whatsoever to those who do fitness-boxing and attend retreats like these, i just find it VERY ODD that there ain't any training camps like those in Thailand out there, or perhaps i haven't looked good enough?..  Appericiate all responses, thank you!
    • In my experience, 1 pair of gloves is fine (14oz in my case, so I can spar safely), just air them out between training (bag gloves definitely not necessary). Shinguards are a good idea, though gyms will always have them and lend them out- just more hygienic to have your own.  2 pairs of wraps, 2 shorts (I like the lightweight Raja ones for the heat), 1 pair of good road running trainers. Good gumshield and groin-protector, naturally. Every time I finish training, I bring everything into the shower (not gloves or shinnies, obviously) with me to clean off the (bucketsfull in my case) of sweat, but things dry off quickly here outside of the monsoon season.  One thing I have found I like is smallish, cotton briefs for training (less cloth, therefore sweaty wetness than boxers, etc.- bring underwear from home- decent, cotton stuff is strangely expensive here). Don't weigh yourself down too much. You might want to buy shorts or vests from the gym(s) as (useful) souvenirs. I recommend Action Zone and Keelapan, next door, in Bangkok (good selection and prices):  https://www.google.com/maps/place/Action+Zone/@13.7474264,100.5206774,17z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!2sAction+Zone!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2!3m5!1s0x30e29931ee397e41:0x4c8f06926c37408b!8m2!3d13.7474212!4d100.5232523!16s%2Fg%2F1hm3_f5d2?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAyOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
