Hey all, I thought I would share my recent rescue (I rescue Australian wildlife in my spare time)
We got a call last night about an Echidna who was hit by a car and who needed to be be taken to the hospital (Steve Irwin's Wildlife hospital if anyone is a fan)
Anyway, this little animal was tough as nails! it decided to burrow itself into the dirt (this is how they defend themselves) It took my partner and I over an hour of digging and manoeuvring to pick her up and to take her for treatment and to be checked over by the doctors.
This little creature had "clinched" itself into the ground so strongly it was like trying to lift a tree stump out of the ground!!!!!
As rescuers we get to name the animal... I decided to call it Sylvie! I think It's only fitting... it's little, very strong and good at clinching LOL
So, little Sylvie has now been cleared with just minor injuries, a few scratches and small damage to the spikes, so so lucky.
She will be released back into the wild in the next few days!

Hey there, love the gyms shown here. Great thread idea!
just wanted to share our little living room gym. When the lockdown got real, I spent a little cash so Ina and I could continue training. I feel very lucky and thankful to have her by my side and to have the opportunity for a home gym like this.
This jump rope is not used indoors btw., but in our driveway. It’s brutal and rips your arms out after 30 seconds.
Nice!!!!!!!
esp love how the mats match the bag.You got some nice gear there! I really dig the twin gloves.
That jump rope is beast mode hahah

Erm so now it will probs have to wait at least a week or so - if not muay thai i manage to injury myself in other ways. Came off my bike and injured my shoulder so probs will have to wait till it gets better. The idea of one arm internet PT from Thailand sounds a bit too crazy even for my experimental standards haha but I’ll update when I do it!
Oh bugger, hope you recover fast

This is not an original observation on my part, but I definitely have been thinking about it and weighing the possibility for some time, gathering evidence. The first time I read the suggestion was in this blog post from 2015, which points out that that in Street Fighter II "Sagat" was much lankier; unfortunately though the author perpetuated the false history that Sagat had beaten Dieselnoi which he takes as a knock against his own suggestion:
A graphic from the blog post:
Great read! definitely a hybrid of the two! Even the way Dieselnoi wears his shorts is the same as the game character!

Share you book recommendations
I’m currently reading Mike Tyson’s book, not his bestseller life story ‘Undisputed Truth’ (although awesome and recommended too)
but the book ’Iron Ambition’ about his life with Cus D’amato his first trainer who basically built a world champion.

I’ve got 100x100 with 2cm thickness, I have lower back injury so skipping on this thickness helps

Woah.....
Thanks Kevin, just fascinating.
This reminds me too in Thailand that only Mahuts (elephant companions) are allowed to be male.
I was told this is because of female mensuration too but I wonder if it runs deeper?
The strength of the elephant being a sacred animal and having no place for a woman.
A bit like the Muay Thai ring.
Ha Even though most elephants in captivity are female!

Richard, you're in my hometown! I was going to suggest that if you get a standing bag, one that has a base, that you can fill it with water because then you can empty it and move it more easily than if it's sand. But because of all the snow and change in temperatures that Boulder experiences, the water might be a risky move. A hanging bag is preferable for all kinds of reasons, but obviously depends on budget and if you have somewhere to hang it from.
Leather cracks if you don't fill the bag properly at the beginning. Any slack, "bagginess" between the filling and the leather, if you hit it for a few weeks it will crack and break open. So make sure you really pack it and keep adding to it over the first couple weeks to make sure it's full, even as the filling starts to settle.
I'm looking at everyone's gyms and am jealous of these mats. Kevin and I are working on tile and it's very slippery when we start to drip from sweat and I think I hurt my foot by stomping around like a maniac on such a hard surface... I thought I was tougher, I guess.
That sucks about your foot, I remember I hurt my foot too from training Karate on wooden floor boards. If you can’t get mats at the moment, old carpet can take some of the impact too or a yoga mat but that’s a bit limiting.

Hey, thanks for your input, any thoughts about leather or non-leather for home use?
I have non leather but I live in a humid climate so organic materials seem to get mould of them Pretty quick here. But I’m unsure if leather is better In bags.

Soooo, in looking for heavy bags there are so many choices,,, 6ft, 4ft, leather, non leather, anchored, or not.. teardrop , then there is the filling,,,, any advice would be helpful,,, thanks
Hey there definitely go for a 6ft because you can use it for low leg chops as well as everything else. I really like my teardrop too but that’s more for uppercuts and knees .
filling- I bought mine already filled but I’ve seen people put in old clothes and rags as long as all buttons and zips have been removed

I’ve only heard of Cambodia top team but I think they are also mma.
I did read you can learn their traditional ancient style Bokator which apparently is older than Boran and is on the walls of Ankor Wat temple.
But I’m not sure how true that all is and if the Style and teachers actually survived the genocide. Either way it would be great to train and support locals esp in Cambodia. Such a poor country -
Ah got it!
Thanks so much guys...

Ruup isn’t Ning...
how?
I’m confused... I really enjoy these terminologies the Thais have But what’s the difference here.
or what’s your definition of the two..
Ruup is how you hold yourself?
Ning is superhero business?- 1

So jealous.
Gonna do the same once the cash situation lets me get ground floor apartment with a back yard.
Real quick - is it true that the mats are the expensive part of doing it? Like cost more than the bags and Mr Bob dummy etc..?I got a few second hand ones and some online for 20bucks a sq metre, my heavy bag was more expensive. An old carpet will do the trick too if you’re on a budget

Hey there,
I recommend the long heavy bag, for an all rounder. (Black and white in the picture)
I recently added the tear drop bag to my gym for upper cuts and knees but I’m finding I’m still getting more wear out of the longer one.
I can smash lower kicks on a longer bag too which is really satisfying on days I don’t feel flexible.
hope this helps
