  1. hey guys and girls, I have been suffering with SI joint pain on my left side. I've backed off mid/high kicking on my left side to reduce aggravating my hip. does anyone else suffer from SI joint issues and if so what exercises/yoga/stretches do you use to help reduce pain and to strengthen the area, any insight would be greatly appreciated:) discuss!!!!
  2. I know this is an old post but I wanted to suggest something that has worked well for me. I too suffer from knee injuries(breakdanced for 20yrs) so now with muay thai it is so important for me to protect my knees because I also have flat feet so it adds to the stress put on my knees and back. I stopped running!! I switched over to riding a road bike, which allows me to cycle in a way that not only keeps my knees working smoothly, but allows me to tailor my cardio workouts which is awesome. I usually ride 90+ miles a week 25-30 mile rides and I do sprints and hill climbing and everything in between. I also add deadlifting to this and between the two my cardio and leg strength go through the roof, my knees get much more stable and stronger and I don't get the impact and wear running can give you over time. I am only 155 lbs but I can deadlift 250-300lbs. but even with moderate or light deadlifts my muay thai training is so much stronger and balanced. there is a reason dead lifts are used by every single sport, they work!!! just a different angle worth looking into to help you reach your goal and save some wear and tear on your joints:)
  3. I Trained at Sutai for 2 months (0ct-dec 2017) and it was awesome. The gym is located close to Surin beach in Phuket and the location was perfect!!! The level of talent at this gym is very high, it is a fighters' gym!! several MX champions live and train there and there are many up and coming fighters from many South American countries there as well. Some of the trainers are also current fighters, they are young but many of them have several hundred fights under their belts each. They also have Beukew, an absolutely amazing female trainer who is a boxing champion as well, and a in house comedian, she too is a current fighter. Amy, Bia, and Olly do an amazing job running the show, They helped me out countless times during my stay and always made sure the guests are taken care of. The Gym has an on site restaurant that serves up some pretty healthy dishes and can work with you to make sure your dietary needs are met. The gym has an on site pro shop to buy gloves, shorts, and other swag you may need. The prices where much better than the gear shops in patong etc. The gym is very clean too!! Surin beach, and Bang Tao beach are only a small walk away from the gym, and on Saturdays we would go to the beach and do pad work which was a awesome way to end the week!!! there are tons of places to eat around the gym. It is best to go a little off the beach area because the prices tend to be higher because of all the tourists. So go mix in with the locals down the street!!! A huge plus is you are a scooter ride away from patong, if you want the night life, or beaches and other site seeing destinations if you want to chill and keep it low key:) there are 2 sessions daily morning/afternoon. I would also highly recommend taking private lessons, because it will allow you more time with the trainers you feel the most comfortable with. Even if the gym is busy the student to trainer ratio is excellent!! It was awesome training with Craig Dickson again(2x MX champion) and Martin Avery(MX fighter) who live at the gym. I really learned so much from them and had a lot of fun, super humble guys, and a great vibe from the gym, it really is like a Family!!!! I would recommend Sutai to anyone who is looking to train in Phuket. You get a lot out of this gym if you do your part and put in the work. I miss it very much and wouldn't hesitate to go back again!!!! If anyone has any questions about the gym, feel free to ask I will do my best to answer them:)
  4. I recently trained at Sutai gym in Phuket which was amazing. a couple of people who I trained along side went back to Rawai gym for a couple sessions to train because they had trained there before. they said its a good gym but its really big and sorta commercialized(their opinions not mine) so I think it depends on what you are looking for:)
