Today on my afternoon run I passed by a soccer field with a bunch of guys playing. They were really good, clearly having spent a lot of time playing soccer. I loved soccer when I played, from Kindergarten until High School. There was this little kid on the field, smaller and younger than anyone else by far, and he stood in his position as a left wing and never got the ball. Nobody would pass to this kid because they were playing for real. But then he got the ball and this little monster has possession for maybe 4 seconds and takes that opportunity to do a trick as he passes it to someone else. He passed it maybe 2 feet to another player and fell down afterwards, like he’d done an aerial or something, but the trick worked. It was awesome. I learned something from that kid and I took it to heart in training. If you never get the ball, when you get the ball, you do a trick!
