Now that we've totally revamped the Roundtable Forum, with new software that will be regularly updated with the latest latest stuff, I'm starting a new features thread. This software is so awesome we're still stumbling on very cool stuff built in. If you find something you like screenshot it and share it with others.

The first thing is simple, but not completely intuitive. How to Quote someone when answering a topic or a comment. You just drag your cursor over the part of what they are saying and you'll see the quote option pop up next to the highlight. It looks like this:

When you hit quote the entire highlight will be dropped down into the comment box, with a citation of who wrote the original and when. That way people know exactly the parts you may be referencing in your thoughts. The part that isn't super intuitive is that you can quote several parts of a single post, just by doing the same highlight again. You can in that way quote a part, respond to it, then quote another part of interest, respond to it, and so on. The new quote will just pop in wherever you left your cursor in the comment box. And, even better, you can quote from more than one person, in a single comment, in the same way. Just highlight the words of someone in the thread, hit "quote", and then scroll to another person in the thread, and do the same. It makes for a nice, neat way of ordering the conversation.

This is on desktop, I'm not entirely sure how it works on mobile.

It seems to be working exactly the same on mobile. It even tells how long ago the quote was said. Pretty cool feature.

    • There is a fundamental dichotomy, a catch, which farang will experience when coming to Thailand to dream of becoming recognized in a traditional way. The more "value" you have...in your attempted authenticity, the more you are pulled into a traditional hierarchy in which the fighter holds an extremely low position, and in which your opportunity to develop as a fighter becomes highly restricted to the meaning-system of those held by those high in that pyramid. In short, the more value you achieve, the less opportunity you have. And, for women - because traditional Muay Thai is quite patriarchal - this can be more intensely so. So, if your aim is to develop as a fighter to the height of your capacities, our experience and guiding rule has been: Be very careful about how much "value" you have, especially within traditional concepts of value. This means that to some degree you have to skate by, across some concepts of "authenticity", certain types of recognition or symbolic value (because they can foreclose growth and opportunity), and instead carve out new, creative forms of value to others. This is Sylvie's secret gift and path, the way she carefully avoids kinds or limits of value, while creating value and meaning, so that her horizon as a fighter is not curbed by tradition itself.
    • I feel like even when I find a voice in Muay Thai with whom I may have some sympathy, discourse itself is impossible, because of the highly political nature of social media life-rafting, everyone grabbing onto their own piece to stay afloat, often using the social media form to assail others, but also signaling their potential place within commerce. The very sense of reachable agreements become divorced from the possible. Allies and potential allies because disagreeable promimates and competitors for attention or even a place in the "idea space". I can't even suitably ask: Do you actually agree with the things you are saying? It's a very odd hyper-real collapse of what discussion is supposed to be. This is why the discussion now can only be had at the level of the muay you build - which is difficult as they fast change the rules to favor foreign schematics and values - the muay becoming the language of a true-ist discourse. The alphabet of limbs and spaces and nothing more...a muay that betters what it disagrees with.
    • One thing to appreciate is that ONE Championship is really just "Muay American". Not only is it captured by the image of the UFC, it was dreamed up by an American boarding school kid, his imagination of what "Muay Thai" should be, far away from the country and culture of Thailand itself.

    • That sounds promising if you've already moved, how are things going for you now?
    • I'm sorry I don't really know. Sylvie is in touch with a collector and this person is where she buys hers, but there are not multiple copies available. Maybe someone else would know of a larger source.
    • Where can I find some physical old Muay Thai magazines? I am located in Bangkok. Thanks
    • I can only comment on Perth. There's a very active Muay Thai scene here - regular shows. Plenty of gyms across the city with Thai trainers. All gyms offer trial classes so you can try a few out before committing . Direct flights to Bangkok and Phuket as well. Would you be coming over on a working holiday visa? Loads of work around Western Australia at the moment.
