  1. Yeah I was wondering if maybe I hadn't fully explained or something. I'm from the US. I have tried searching online. Authentic muay thai that doesn't have other shit mixed in is basically nonexistent. Another reason I am hesitant to leave altogether. And it doesn't appear that he has a nasty attitude with anyone else. That's why I'm feeling really singled out. The other instructors are great, but he's the owner and the coach of the fight team, which is my ultimate goal to be a part of. I really need to talk to him, though. I really want to find out what his issue with me is. I just don't understand it.

     

    On a more positive note.. After two weeks of being sick I went back to the gym today. Just some cycling and a little bit of ab work. But it felt good to burn energy. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to start going to class again. And then maybe talk to Coach finally.

    My issue with my current gym isn't with the lack of positivity. It's him being rude and disrespectful to me. There's a fine line of being tough but encouraging, and just being a douche, and that line has been crossed more times than I care for. I can't even get him to talk to me about it because he won't return my messages or phone call.

     

    As for training southpaw, it's not sparring, it's practicing combos in class. I've only in the past month switched because of a shoulder injury that is having trouble healing. And because everyone in that class is a beginner, they don't understand how to practice with a southpaw. Hence they don't like it. But I can't do the advanced class because, according to coach, I'm not good enough. So, caught between a rock and a hard place. And where I live, there aren't many muay thai gyms at all. The one I go to is already About an hour drive from me.

     

    And if I could, I would record, but I don't have a way to do so.

  3. Happens every time I go to a class. Muay thai for me is an emotional experience altogether. Taking everything that's happened over the years and learning to cope instead of pushing down into the memory box, hoping it doesn't re surface again.

     

    I'm a very emotional person to begin with but I hide it with anger and outbursts. Idk about everyone else specifically. But I imagine everyone at least once has had a similar experience.

  4. Okay cool. Because right now I'm having a self identified identity crisis when it comes to stance. I have more power in orthodox and better technique in southpaw. I am not completely comfortable in either. It's been over a year now and it still feels that way.

     

    I know part of the reason is because of my shoulder, any time we run nothing but jabs or jabs and hooks off the lead arm I have to switch to southpaw because my shoulder can't handle it yet. But yeah. I tried googling but couldn't find anything but articles on the disadvantages of being southpaw.

  5. So, I normally "like" what people post to let them know I read what they wrote, but apparently I have reached my quota for doing so. So, Gavin, I wanted to let you know I read your training log, just don't always have an opportunity to comment or reply.

     

    But yes, there definitely does not seem to be a "right" way. Judging by the different approaches I've seen so far. The best advice that has been given to me, is that you need to do what feels right to you. So, the mechanics need to be right, but how you execute will be unique to you. Hope that makes sense. Keep on keeping on :)

  6. Hey sorry for the delay in response. I wasn't searching for a southpaw friendly gym (though it is true no one likes to really practice with a person in southpaw I've noticed.. I get a lot of complaints) per se.. Just one where the coach isn't being a douche.

     

    I've still not talked to the coach about the way he has been treating me yet. But in my defense, I've been sick off and on for the past two weeks, so I've not really had the energy to deal with him.

     

    BUT that being said, I have tried a gym last week (right before I got sick.. Again) and it was a much smaller place, about 10 mins from my apartment, and I thought it had its pros and cons. The coach was nice enough.. He didn't discount me, which was lovely, and even came to talk to me afterward and set up some extra practice drilling. However, I found his style... A little more aggressive? If that's a thing ? And he's more of a go getter than maybe I'm used to. (That probably makes zero sense, but I don't know how else to describe it.)

     

    BUT. he worked on my left kick with me (the one I struggle with, as well as injured myself with), and he really was a seemingly nice guy. I had a better vibe with him than I have with Coach in a while.

  7. A different gym altogether. If I can't get anything out of my Coach, any explanation as to why he's treating me rudely, then I'll need to move to a new gym altogether. I don't want to, but he's making it difficult.

     

    Training wise though, I've been training as a Southpaw. Technique wise, I thinK I'm better as a Southpaw. Which goes against everything coach has been training me to do as a traditional. Another reason I need to examine my options.

  8. Steph, how's the footwork coming ? I've had that problem before, and that is no small accomplishment ! Resetting is difficult to learn.

     

    Marnir, that's great ! It's always a great feeling to land something, especially something you've been working on.

     

    Micc, I wish people were scared of me sometimes ! Lol. I'm actually usually the one asked if I'm afraid of someone instead! Lol. It's great that your trainer is utilizing you to help demonstrate.
