I hadn’t heard of this fight, but ran into it reading Saenchai’s wikipedia page. On July 3rd in 2009 at Lumpinee Saenchai Sor. Kingstar fought both Petchboonchu F.A. Group (rounds 1-3) and Saketdao Petchpayathai (rounds 4-5), video above. Petchboonchu really gives it to him in the first rounds, with an all out clinch attack designed (I assume) to exhaust him. Not sure about the decision, but an odd, anomaly of a fight.

I asked Rob Cox on Twitter if he had seen any other fight like it – let’s face it, Rob has seen everything. He says he hasn’t, though he has heard of it happening in the past. Most interesting though is that there is at least a rumor of talk of a match like this for Pakorn vs Superbank and Thaksinlek. You’ve got to love how close Rob is to the Muay Thai scene.

With all the Thai Fight type gimmick trends going on, I can’t say that I love the idea, but I do have to say that it is cool to see the Saenchai fight, with Petchboonchu coming out so hard. It wasn’t a show fight.

A 100 lb. (46 kg) female Muay Thai fighter. Originally I trained under Kumron Vaitayanon (Master K) and Kaensak sor. Ploenjit in New Jersey. I then moved to Thailand to train and fight full time in April of 2012, devoting myself to fighting 100 Thai fights, as well as blogging full time. Having surpassed 100, and then 200, becoming the westerner with the most fights in Thailand, in history, my new goal is to fight an impossible 471 times, the historical record for the greatest number of documented professional fights (see western boxer Len Wickwar, circa 1940), and along the way to continue documenting the Muay Thai of Thailand in the Muay Thai Library project: see patreon.com/sylviemuay
