vs. Peeloshmee Deonarain – WKA Nationals in Virgina – June 27th 2009
This was my very first fight. The WKA didn’t have a 105 lbs division at the time, so it was a “110 lbs and under” catch weight. I stepped on the scale with my jeans on at 104 lbs. There were only three fighters in the “novice” (fewer than 3 wins) division and all of us were from New York. Funny. I lost this fight and loved fighting.
It was a great experience in many ways: I was introduced to the Muay Thai community of New York, which I had previously not known at all and got to know many women and very nice trainers who helped me by opening up their doors and connections to me; I realized there were other women reasonably close to my size who I could fight; my brothers came to see me and support me; Master K came down to support me, which was a HUGE thing that requires greater explanation than what can fit here; and ultimately I got in the ring. And that started it all.
