Voting Ends January 1st 2014 – Lots of Categories
Just some of the nominations from a few categories below (oh my God, I’m on there!):
My vote for female Fighter of the Year goes to Phetjee Jaa.
This list of nominees was collected through public submissions, so one was free to nominate anybody who is inspiring. The head of Awakening, named Rew, sifted through and excluded any names he couldn’t find any information on, but many selections were included. I think this is really wonderful because it allows us to “discover” more female fighters and figures in Muay Thai that we might not otherwise have awareness of. It’s a brilliant way to grow visibility and recognition in female Muay Thai, globally. Of course, this form and the website are currently directed at English-speaking audiences exclusively, so the nominations lean toward figures and fighters that are more well-known in the west. But that’s a good start! Hopefully next year, through the help of what Awakening is aiming to do in building and promoting female Muay Thai (and other martial arts), these lists will be more diverse, longer, and more categories will be included.
