Any Bugs, Errors and Confusions?

Recommended Posts

This forum is still brand new and there's lots of tweaks and adjustments to be made, so please do us a favor and alert us to anything that isn't working or is confusing, etc. This section is the "comments box" so to speak, so let us know of any bugs, errors, improvements, etc.  We'll delete the comments when the issue is resolved, so don't be shy to post numerous times if you run into different things. Comment as you go.

Things I've had trouble with so far are: at times double posting because it seemed like my comment didn't post, and also that My Media button on the edit screen that was confusing.

You can also private message me in the forum here on my profile

Only thing I have seen so far is a strange flashing/screen tearing. Seems to happening mostly while pages are loading, but a little bit once it is fully loaded as well. I'm viewing the forum on an Android device; perhaps this is a Flash related issue?

When you are replying to a thread and somebody posts a reply in the meantime, there is a pop-up notification which offers you to see the new reply. However when you click on it, nothing happens.

When I go to "New content" and click on the topic it brings me to the page, but it starts at the head. It would be cool if it would scroll down automagically to the new unread post.

I also didn't notice if the unread content is marked differently in the thread. Is it even possible?

If you click on the little black circle/conversation symbol next to the topic thread it should bring you to the newest post. If you hover over it, a message pops up that says " go to first unread post".

dtrick, GENIUS!

I also just explored that if you click on the little icon in the middle - between the topic's title and other stuff it shows the first and last post! :D
Thanks for your help!

My turn to learn something new. I never notice that "preview topic" icon before. Fancy!

um... how do I post a picture from my computer please

Hey Rosy, Sylvie put up a Forum Features and How to Use them Post that describes it. Basically the photo has to be uploaded somewhere else on the Internet. You take the url of the photo and paste it in the field that shows when you click the picture icon on a post.

Does anyone else notice the background scrolling horizontally? Not sure if it's just the page refreshing itself.

That may be the color change of the background? On the Chrome browser it shows as a line that moves across the screen. but on Firefox for instance it's just a color gradation. Or do you see something else?

I'm using Chrome with the black background and every so often a vertical line scrolls across the screen. Sounds like it's normal for the browser I'm using.

Some people have experienced slow page load times on Chrome. In one instance upgrading to Chrome's latest version improved Chrome performance. Personally I see some sluggishness on Chrome (vs Explorer and Firefox), but nothing heavy. More that Chrome eats up CPU at a high rate.

I did some Googling around and found this very interesting article on how to speed up Chrome: Quick Fix For Your Slow Chrome Browser - I made this change on Chrome and it seemed to really speed up the load time, anecdotally so far.

The article explains it, but you basically go into Settings>Show Advanced Settings and uncheck this box (below) and Restart Chrome. It may seem counter intuitive to uncheck acceleration, but it does seem to help in some cases.

I just tried this and updated Chrome at Kevin's suggestion. It seems to help. I also need to resist the temptation to have tons of tabs open at once which of course slows things down.

  • 2 years later...

I want to change my avatar from the standard anonymous octopus to a little animation. Can I do this, and if so, what format? I've made is as an MP4 but the website doesn't like it. SHould it be a gif, or can't I have a moving avatar? Thanks!

I think it just has to be a photo. But I'm not sure, I haven't tried putting in a GIF. The GIF though, if it would work, would have to be hosted somewhere else.

    • Hi, this might be out of the normal topic, but I thought you all might be interested in a book-- Children of the Neon Bamboo-- that has a really cool Martial Arts instructor character who set up an early Muy Thai gym south of Miami in the 1980s. He's a really cool character who drives the plot, and there historically accurate allusions to 1980s martial arts culture. However, the main thrust is more about nostalgia and friendships.    Can we do links? Childrenoftheneonbamboo.com Children of the Neon Bamboo: B. • Davince Resolve is a great place to start.
    • I see that this thread is from three years ago, and I hope your journey with Muay Thai and mental health has evolved positively during this time. It's fascinating to revisit these discussions and reflect on how our understanding of such topics can grow. The connection between training and mental health is intricate, as you've pointed out. Finding the right balance between pushing yourself and self-care is a continuous learning process. If you've been exploring various avenues for managing mood-related issues over these years, you might want to revisit the topic of mental health resources. One such resource is The UK Medical Cannabis Card, which can provide insights into alternative treatments.
    • Phetjeeja fought Anissa Meksen for a ONE FC interim atomweight kickboxing title 12/22/2023. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu92S6-V5y0&ab_channel=ONEChampionship Fight starts at 45:08 Phetjeeja won on points. Not being able to clinch really handicapped her. I was afraid the ref was going to start deducting points for clinch fouls.
    • Earlier this year I wrote a couple of sociology essays that dealt directly with Muay Thai, drawing on Sylvie's journalism and discussions on the podcast to do so. I thought I'd put them up here in case they were of any interest, rather than locking them away with the intention to perfectly rewrite them 'some day'. There's not really many novel insights of my own, rather it's more just pulling together existing literature with some of the von Duuglus-Ittu's work, which I think is criminally underutilised in academic discussions of MT. The first, 'Some meanings of muay' was written for an ideology/sosciology of knowledge paper, and is an overly long, somewhat grindy attempt to give a combined historical, institutional, and situated study of major cultural meanings of Muay Thai as a form of strength. The second paper, 'the fighter's heart' was written for a qualitative analysis course, and makes extensive use of interviews and podcast discussions to talk about some ways in which the gendered/sexed body is described/deployed within Muay Thai. There's plenty of issues with both, and they're not what I'd write today, and I'm learning to realise that's fine! some meanings of muay.docx The fighter's heart.docx
