Hey mate sorry for bumping old thread, im thinking bout going to Manop for 3 months in nov-dec-jan. Everything you described in your posts are what i'm looking for, but there was some things bothering me.

    1)

From what I read you barely got to spar? Sparring is a huge deal and important for me.. Why didn't you get to spar in the beginning?

    2)

You seem to spent ALOT of time hitting the bag, why didnt you get more pad-time in the beginning of your training? I really don't know your level and it was hard to tell from the fight

    3) (Probably most important)

How are they on instructions? Do they correct your technique? how much do they emphesise on that? Do they teach you proper form, sweeps, techniques, tricks, etc? cause from your posts it seemed like you were on your own pretty much the entire stay

    Cheers!

Sparring was each day, it's part of the training, also each day you go the bagwork and the pads, so i don't know where you got that idea from.
You never go  without hiting the pads or having spar in the Thailand, unless you're in a really bad comercial gym, but the spar there is way different than in other countries, you develop technique there and go sparr without power, by either legs, hands or clinch, depending on the day .
As for technique, they always correct you and try to teach it the correct way, they made a good amount of adjustments in my kicking techniques, sweeps and clinch while i was there, i didn't go into such small details because it would take a whole book to write about how much small things they see and try to work on that.
Also i don't think you fully read what i wrote in the blogs, because i don't really remember now all the things i wrote, it was a long time ago, but i went on and re-read the first day i wrote, and it already said i did a lot of pads and clinch , knees and elbows , so i don't know where you got the idea that i didn't do pad work.

  2. I love Muay Thai and i would love it if that became worldwide known sport, but at the same time i think if it would be known more rules would change 100%. Scoring would prob become same as in Kickboxing, balance wouldn't matter that much and i think overall Muay Thai would change...i mean even when you watch max muay thai, It's Muay Thai,  but it's not the same . I wouldn't like Muay Thai to change even more and it def would , but i wouldn't want Muay Thai  to disapear either... Plenty of things to think about to be honest. 😕

So do you think that being barefooted a lot can help to reduce flat feet by strengthening the muscles? Or do you think it increases flat footedness. I no knee valgus can be caused by flat feet. I’ve heard mixed things on whether or not being barefoot helps strengthen your arches. It seems a high % of people at the gym have flat feet.

Yup. Try to read a book: Whole Body Barefoot: Transitioning Well to Minimal Footwear 😉

  4. Flat feet are barefoot shoes are good and healthy for your foot, there are loads of ligaments, tendons and muscles in your foot and if you always use shoes with comfy fat soles the foot doesn't have 2work anymore. In a human biomechanical way you're in disadvantage because you're out of your alignment, you can develop loads of injuries just because your roots are bad, knee pain, shoulder pain, hip pain can come just from having flat feet, that being said iv'e seen plenty of fighters with flat feet and plenty of Thai's, so it's not as big a deal for a fighter, just overall health. I also have flat feet but seem to be doing ok, have injuries tho. That's my 2cents .  😉

I enjoy watching golden age Muay Thai. But I can’t help but notice that 80% of the strikes are middle kicks being exchanged.

Why do middle kicks that perturb balance score higher than getting punched in the face ? Logically ,more fights have been finished by punches to the face than a middle kick. So why are they scored less ? Shouldn’t “damage” be more important than the art of maintaining the narrative of balance/ dominance to win a fight?

Because Muay Thai scoring is different. Hands are mostly used for adding up damage or finishing the fight with K.O while knees, elbows body kicks and sweeps are main scoring tactics. Depends on the style of the fighter. Punch doesn't score at all unless you clearly outbalance him, same with leg kick, it's a blow for damage, but you don't get points if you don't break their balance. There are styles who use heavy hands and leg kicks, but they don't try to win on points, they want a clear K.O . There are different styles.

Well if that's a picture of you RB on your profile I think you may be fibbing about the weights! 😄

I do only bodyweight, i used to do weighted pulls ups and dips for power tho.  I mean it's useful, but technique is most important. Iv'e seen guys with insane technique with almost 0 physical training beat really strong guys. But if you have both it's really useful. But first i would go with technique just because seems a better thing to have in a fight, either way is good tho.! Best of luck

  7. Well depens on gym. I was in Chiang Mai, we had 2runs each day. One is 7AM for 1hour before training and afternoon is 30min run before training. If you're fighting you're also doing 30min of jump rope, so it's like 1h 30min or 2hours of that each day 6times a week. That being said it's not a must, but you def get more out of training that way, you build cardio as much as mental toughness.

With my amateur eye you look so great! Composure, nice kicks and everything. You must be so happy with this achievement ! Dude I'm so impressed.

I can't say im fully happy, i might be happy because i won, but looking on video i see so many mistakes,  things i need to work on, but it was nice experience to feel . I just hoped fight would last a little longer, didn't expect to end so quickly, didn't even expect to win when entering the fight to be honest.

  9. Video of my first fight.Kinda sad that i couldn't do Wai Kru...I took one part to show clinch from a different angle, but quality is shit, but atleast it's not a blind spot as in the original video . Hope you guys like it. I know i made mistakes, but considering i trained only 3weeks muay thai for the first time, i'd say it wasn't reaal reaal bad. I'm with blue/red shorts btw.

  10. Ok so we did 2nd training today and again it was approx 40min. So even if i would join both sessions together it still would be 10mins short of 1 full session. In these 2days I learned loads of good things, but at the same time it makes me kinda sad because if you think about it you would get 2x the training and I might have learned 2x more things. He said it's shorter because he's liking the technique i have and he doesn't want me to forget but at the same time im like recording everything, so 180 mins instead of 80mins would have been much more experience to learn from as much in person and as much as you look back on the video. If i wouldn't have expected 1.3h in each session i might feel a little different, but now i just feel like he didn't give me the time that i paid for. Now as for training, the charisma he has is amazing. Always so energetic, feels like he loves to teach you, also he's really friendly, it's a second day we are having food together after training. I'd say as for training you can really feel how he's teaching you, but don't expect him to spend 90mins each session because you might feel a little robbed just because you expected him to give you 90mins of work and training and you got only half of it. Either way the things he taught me will be really useful for learning I just wish i got more, because now i kinda feel like i paid for 2days and simply got 1day split into 2. I know it's not his intent probably and these are just feelings and it's OK to feel like this. 😉

  11. Today had 1st training sesion , kinda sad that 1'3h workout lasted like 40minutes instead of hour and 30mins, i pay 3000 for 1hour and 30min and instead i get 40mins , but that was just covering  the basics.  I hope tomorrows workout lasts 1hour 30mins so i could learn more .  The techniques he's using is simply amazing and really good, but what i love more than that is just hi's energy,  he's so alive and happy and in such age ! Trully a legend.

@RB Coop will you be blogging about your time in ubon? I would love to know how the 2 locations compare 🙂

I have only 2days there so i won't really have enough time to compare both. Ubon mostly for temples, food, sculptures. So far i could say food is similar, but i've heard it's more similar to Vietnam food. I could post some pics if you would like.

    Yeah!!! Awesome.

Will prob upload video once im back to my country. So after new year. I got 2videos so i want to join them together,  to see all the best angles in the fight for hi's and my attacks. One vid from the oficial Chiang Mai stadium and other from the spectator seat. There are some blind spots as always, but 2angles are better than one, sorry for the wait . 🙂

This could be nerves... I remember one time, the evening before a fight, a really severe soreness on my shoulder returned from previous injuries. I asked my coach about ice bath and meds, but he said we'll go get dinner. And lo and behold, the soreness was gone during and after dinner.

Rotavirus was the case for me. Also flu triggered asthma that's why i thought i wouldn't last for more than 2, was hard 2breathe.

    💥💥💥💥

    I feel you.

It took me forever to get to fight in Thailand and it cost me a lot of money. I've also fought sick, had a doc telling me I couldn't possibly fight and yet during fight I felt 0 sickness and had a great experience. Then I got a knee ligament injury, trained around it kept making it worse and realized I had to rest to avoid permanent damage to the knee joint. And declined wonderful exciting fight offers which was so hard to do as I'm leaving Thailand soon for Myanmar.

This stuff is hard! There is really no easy way of doing this.

Whatever your decision I want to say I'm really impressed by your training and attitude with all those curve balls coming your way.

Curious to hear how it panned out.

I went to fight, 1st round TKO. I'll upload video when they will send me.
